In 63 B.C., Marcus Tullius Cicero uncovered the Catilinarian conspiracy, an attempted coup led by Lucius Sergius Catilina. Though he came from a family of limited political prestige, Cicero rose through discipline, intellect, and an unmatched command of evidence. Drawing on a network of informants, he exposed the conspiracy before the Roman Senate and delivered a series of public orations that forced Catiline from Rome.
